Sailing Area

The East coast offers ideal cruising for the yachtsman and his family. The many rivers and estuaries are a delight and well known for their peace and wildlife. For the more adventurous Holland, Belgium and France are easily accessible and prove extremely popular with many yachtsmen.

A short sail from the Crouch will bring you to the estuaries of the Colne and Blackwater. Brightlingsea is popular with visiting yachtsmen and the Pyefleet Channel provides one of the most peaceful anchorages. West Mersea is a bustling yachtsmen's town where the Harbour Master will direct you to your mooring. There are marinas at Tollesbury and Bradwell which both offer excellent club houses and facilities.

Sailing north past the holiday resorts of Clacton, Frinton and Walton will bring you to Harwich Harbour and the rivers Orwell and Stour.

The Orwell is a picturesque tree lined river where moorings are available at Suffolk Yacht Harbour near the village of Levington. Heading up river towards Ipswich is Woolverstone Marina and the Royal Harwich Yacht Club. The riverside hamlet of Pin Mill with the famous Butt & Oyster pub is a pleasant stroll away. The Ipswich Haven and Neptune marinas in the centre of Ipswich are an ideal base to explore the town and surrounding area.

Going north out of Harwich harbour the River Deben is a short sail away. There are moorings available at Ramsholt and several delightful anchorage spots before reaching the market town of Woodbridge with its marina along side the old Tide Mill.On turning south from Harwich Harbour brings you to the entrance of Walton Backwaters where the peaceful creeks of Landamere and Handford Water gave inspiration for the Arthur Ransome novels. There are moorings in the Walton Channel leading to Titchmarshes Marina, with the seaside town of Walton on the Naze within easy reach.
